So as some of you have probably noticed I have been severely slacking on my post which is primarily due to the ridiculous amount of travel I have been doing this month! Going back and forth to Chicago has been a simply process but one that certainly wears on you. My trip to St. Louis where I got to go for an awesome few runs was fabulous but again, drains you of all of your energy. So I figured I would do 2 things
1. Assure you that I don’t slack off on my workouts when I travel
2. Tell you what I try to do to workout when I travel
So #1… I don’t slack off. Well, I try not to… hopefully my word is enough here because that is all I have!
#2 I do things that can easily be done in the confines of my small hotel room mostly because I hate those nasty gyms inside hotels. Now, if I did sales and I traveled all of the time I think I would get used to them because you have to but since I don’t have to get used to them I just don’t!
So first, I usually get in a run. As you probably figured out by now I like site seeing on foot. I think you can get to more places and therefore see more things when you don’t have to worry about whether or not your car can go on the road! My feet can take me into tight corners that could potentially have magic around the corner, or a murderer I suppose, but I take my chances!
So here is one of my favorite workouts…
- 2.5 Mile Run
- 5 Squats
- 5 Push-Ups
- 5 Dips
- 5 Sit-Ups
Then round 2
- 10 Squats
- 10 Push-Ups
- 10 Dips
- 10 Sit-Ups
Then round 3
- 20 Squats
- 20 Push-ups
- 20 Dips
- 20 Sit-Ups
Then round 4
- 40 Squats
- 40 Push-ups
- 40 Dips
- 40 Sit-Ups
So yes, you are just doubling the number of reps for each round! By the time you get to the 40 your arms and legs feel like jello but it is certainly a “good” hurt!
So now you may be wondering…. how do you do these exercises in a hotel room? Well, I get creative!
The squats are easy- all you need is a floor
The push-ups are in that same spot so usually just the little hallway as soon as you walk in the door
The dips get a little tricky- so I use the couch if there is one, the table if there is one, worse case you use the side of the bed
If you are like me, you like to tuck your feet under something for quality sit-ups and for this- I lay on the floor and hook my feet underneath the bed.
It’s easy and everything is right there! If it is raining and/or too cold outside for a run, you can always go down and use the treadmill but honestly I would just do jumping jacks (prolly like 100 of them) and some Mountain Climbers to get my heart rate up.
It’s not a perfect system, but hey it works!
So next time you are going out to town PACK YOUR TENNIS SHOES. Just because your traveling does not give you a free ride to eat enormous amounts of food and do something. You will feel better if you eat all that food AND you do a little workout!
Then once you get there- look around the area and your room. Can you run? Are there ways to workout in your hotel room? Lunges are another great exercise- do jump squats instead of regular ones and do the same for the jump lunges. If you are really serious and you have access to the workout bands they are so easy to put in your suitcase and if you really looked around the hotel room I bet you could find 10 different places to hook those things up for arms and legs!
