A Bricco kind of Birthday!

Happy Birthday Casey!!

The other night we all went out to celebrate Casey’s birthday! Her birthday was actually about a week ago but her parents were in town that weekend so we waited a weekend to celebrate. Casey loves to eat out but she certainly has her favorite restaurants. She loved Momocho the first time we went there so we were hoping to maybe squeeze in a reservation there again but they were full (weekend after Valentine’s Day I guess). So we over to Bricco in downtown Akron and had a great meal!

I had never been to that Bricco since I am just a huge fan of Café Bricco which is only about 5 minutes from our house. We like to do there for date nights with each other, date nights with others, and just on random evenings when we don’t want to cook! So I can’t say that I am surprised that I also really enjoyed the regular Bricco in downtown Akron.

We started the meal by ordering fancy drinks! Tim and I both had a lemon drop.

While Casey opted for the California martini (one of my favorites) and Mark got a beer!

After drinks were ordered we dug into the menu. There was pretty much no doubt in mine or Casey’s mind that we would choose the goat cheese and marinara appetizer served with fried pitas.. but not like hard fried just like quickly deep tried for a delicious warm slightly chewy but crunchy texture! I didn’t even get to snap a picture of that because it was gone so quickly!

Casey, Mark, and I are all big fans of pizza. Tim likes weird pizzas (which serves him well here) but is not a fan of just a plain old fashioned pepperoni pizza. I know… totally weird right? But I suppose it reduces the amount I eat pizza because I could probably eat it every day haha.

We chose this pizza that is like a Mexican style pizza with lots of goodies on it. beans, cheese, tortilla strips, and just about everything delicious you can think of! I can’t say for sure but this is probably Tim’s favorite pizza there so he was all good with sharing!

The other pizza we got was a margarita pizza that I also added chicken to on one side. There is just something about that tomato and mozzarella combo that I can’t get enough of!

Although I did have enough and the 4 of us only managed to make it about half way through each pizza. They would have been delicious the next day if we didn’t forget the left overs laying on the table! UGH all 4 of us were so sad about that.

On a non-related food note I saved a boy that evening. This couple, clearly on their first date, were walking out the door of the restaurant and due to Casey laughing at how awkward they were and how you could clearly tell they were on their first date, I turned around. Well lucky for them Casey is funny because I saw the boy drop his entire wallet out of his suit jacket pocket as he flung the jacket on. So me, being the good citizen I am, ran over and said WAIT and they tried to ignore me and kept walking. haha guess that is what I get for being nice? Finally, after I said it about 2 more times, he turned around and found m.. smiling with his wallet in my hand. He was very grateful after that!

Although I think that is a bad sign for a first date? I wonder if things worked out.

After dinner we went to .. drum roll please because I know you will be oh so surprised… MENCHIES! yay for Frozen Yogurt- I can’t help but to remember my first trip to Menchies every time I say it!! I snagged a cute pic of Casey and Tim before we got into the car and also took a pic of my deliciousness for you all to enjoy!

and then I got a message the next day of this beautiful thing enjoying some Frozen Yogurt at Lemonberry (I think it may be owned by the same people that own Pinkberry which is where I had FroYo in Nashville), the new place on Medina Square! Apparently they gave her evil laugh to my sister when I said I was jealous of her! I can just hear that little evil laugh in my head now! HEHEHEHEHEHEEHE.

So this probably goes without saying but what a great night it was! Celebrating and laughing with friends is what I consider to be one of the greatest joys in life!

I hope you had a great birthday Casey!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

Hi all! I know it is tasty Tuesday but in light of the holiday today I thought I would sub in a different post and catch up on food updates tomorrow SO

Today for Valentine’s Day I spent most of my day flying on a plane back and forth to Chicago for work but when I got home I was excited to see Tim walking through the door 10 minutes later!

I had forgotten about Menchies “double smiles” deal today for Valentine’s Day!! So Tim and I decided to have dessert FIRST! Which in my eyes is always the perfect way to have any holidays… Frozen Yogurt for dessert before dinner! I was VERY happy!! (please excuse the not so pretty look I had going this evening… long day)

So I had some peanut butter, cookies and cream, and some vanilla and chocolate twist from Menchies. I then topped it off with some cookies and ice cream bars of sorts! Not exactly on my path to fitness and wellness but certainly a delicious treat for Valentine’s Day!!

Since I had been on a plane all day long  and Tim had been busy at work and watching his brothers basketball game we decided cooking dinner was just out of the question and Tim felt pretty confident that Chinese Food was on his agenda so that is what we had! It was a delicious Valentine’s Day meal!!!

So I just loved my Sesame Chicken! Even though it was not some fancy dinner it was just perfect. Tim and I had a nice evening together catching up on some TV and eating so freaking good yucky Chinese food ;)

So Happy Valentine’s Day to all! I hope you had an amazing day spending it with someone you love and just for the record if that means you spent the evening with yourself, I personally think that is fantastic! You should love yourself more than anyone could ever love you!

The more you worry, the more wrinkles you get

Another weekend gone and another work week started! Oh the joys of being a grown-up. Do you remember when you were younger? Oh I remember crying over my friend using the beautiful red dress on her Barbie when I really wanted to use it on mine. I remember getting so angry at my parents for not giving me that second pack of fruit snacks even though I ate all of my dinner. Oh and  having a big sister that wouldn’t let you come in her room and play with her and her really cool high school friends, that was just the worst! These are the things we used to worry about hu? Then in high school we had to worry about getting good grades so that we could get into a good college. We worried about whether or not our boyfriends or girlfriends were going to kiss us after the Valentine ’s Day dance. We worried that our friends were talking about us behind our backs and then we tried to figure out what we could say or do to get them back. When I got to college I remember worrying about grades (yet again!) but this time I worried because I wanted to get a good job. I worried about what I was going to do with the rest of my life and if I was going to be any good at it. Eventually I worried about where I was going to live and whether or not I would make enough money to be able to afford that small one bedroom apartment. Gosh we worry a lot.

And now that I am growing up and have officially hit my “mid-twenties” I am worry about whether or not my job fulfills me and what I could do differently to make sure it does. I still wonder if my money will allow me to live the life I want to live. More recently, I am wondering where I should get married? Who will I offend? And how the heck am I going to afford it! Oh and then I know I will start worrying about our next home purchase and then babies. How many should we have? Can we afford to raise them the way we want to? What will I do when they cry? Or won’t sleep? Or won’t eat? Gosh from the time we are able to form thoughts we worry a heck of a lot don’t we? The bummer of it all… I have finally realized that the more you worry the more wrinkles you get!

So that is my thought of the day and something that has been on my mind. Let’s get to the interval this week! So Monday morning I practically sprung out of bed. I think my body knew it was time to get moving and after a long weekend of friends, food, and fun my body deserved something good for it! So alarm went off, yep still at 5:30 in the freaking morning, and up I went. I am in a new routine now where I get up brush my teeth and get dressed before I ask Tim whether or not he has any interest in going. This morning he said yes so we shared our before run snack of MaraNatha Chocolate Almond Spread for me and creamy peanut butter for Tim on bagel thins and we were off! Our new interval this week looks like this…

Warm Up 5 min
Run 7 min
Walk 1:30 min

Because it was a new interval that would require more running that also meant a longer track so we took a different route this morning. It was pretty nice to mix things up a bit- I think I was getting a little tired of the old route from last week. The run started out great and we were using a new interval timer on Tim’s Droid but realized on the 2nd walk that the app had decided to just stop running! What that meant was that we walked a little longer than 1:30 but I think I realized it fast enough that it didn’t put us too far off the interval. So with that being said if you can create apps please create one for a Droid or a Palm that actually works because we need one!

By the end of this run my right calf muscle was ON FIRE which is just ironic because Tim’s left calf muscle was burning up too! Guess we used our legs more than we thought over the weekend. This was a great run because we had like 4 or 5 people say good morning which always makes you feel good. The route we ended up taking had a ton of road construction on it so that also kept me pretty alert, I mean I didn’t want to run into a bright orange cone. Most of our walking conversation was centered on the wedding. We are still just very undecided on what the right thing to do is. I am all for a destination wedding but I, of course, want my family and closest friends to be able to attend and to support the wedding itself. Plus, and the biggest reason we’ll have to do destination, is mostly because we are going to be paying for this ourselves and at age 25 I can’t say that we have saved up a whole lot to get married. Not to mention the savings we do have are on a 5 year new house plan and really shouldn’t be used for one wedding night. A destination wedding allows us to have most of the things we want out of a wedding at a reasonable price but unfortunately I can’t say that everyone in my life is 100% supportive of the idea. It will be more expensive to attend for our guest vs. a regular wedding but at least they are getting a vacation out of it too right? In any case, this is not an easy decision to make! Any HELP would be greatly appreciated! For examples take this poll and tell me which of these locations YOU would chose to get married at.

No fancy breakfast this morning because I just ran out of time. I settled on an Eggo low-fat waffle because it was easy to travel with and quick to grab out of the freezer. For lunch we went out to celebrate a co-workers birthday and since our options are limited we chose Bob Evans since that really mixes things up! I wanted to choose something that wouldn’t make me feel like crap the rest of the day so I chose the turkey sandwich that had bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheese on it served on sourdough bread. I decided to skip the bread and the cheese and just had the remaining toppings on some lettuce. It was pretty good! And the side of fruit and applesauce really hit the spot as a nice dessert. When I got home I was glad I ate well because Tim and I headed over to his grandparents house so that we could go to dinner at a place called The Bistro. Well, The Bistro is closed on Mondays so we ended up eating at Tre Belle- which was great news because I have wanted to try there for a while now! I have heard such wonderful things about their pizzas so I chose a glass of Pinot Noir along side a Chicken Pizza topped with pesto and goat cheese. This pizza was DELICIOUS. And the pasta Tim chose (with spicy sausage, whole wheat penne noodles, and broccoli) was named the best pasta dish he has ever had so I would say it was a pretty successful evening. They also brought us out a free tiramisu for dessert and it was good but I’m not a big fan of tiramisu so I’m not sure I can give it a very accurate review.

After dinner we talked about the wedding some more and got some input from his grandparents which we are sorting through now! Then we went home to watch the Bachlorette and I just can’t seem to figure out who she is going to pick! I LOVE JP and think he is VERY handsome but her and Ben seem very compatible so I just don’t know what to think. For those of you who watch, who will she pick?

They are so cute!

Oh but wait, so are they!
