Drunk Princesses Read Too

That creative title… that is the name of our book club. Yes, I am in a book club. My first ever book club which I think is pretty awesome.

Kara and I have both been a little well obsessed with The Hunger Games recently. I.LOVE.KATNISS. So much that I had to make it a choppy sentence and in all capital letters. I love her so much that the other day when Tim turned on the TV while I was reading I excused myself and Katniss from the living room because the TV was bothering “us”. So I read the first book and loved it and it was in perfect time to see the movie in theater with Kara which was amazing.

 First book=Freaking awesome

So after the movie I went right out to get the second book, Catching Fire. I had some serious trouble putting that one down. I found myself thinking about Katniss and company at work. in the car. in the shower (hmm is that weird??). and everywhere else. So as soon as I got home I started reading until there was nothing left to read. Well that is until I purchased the third and final book. You can’t read the last 2 chapters at different times you have to do it at the same time because you cannot possibly stop after they start to set you up for a huge surprise ending.

Second Book= My Favorite

So then the third book magically ended up at my house (or I purchased at the store- I can’t remember which one) and I jumped right in. I kept texting her and requesting that she catch up quickly because I wanted to talk to someone about it! The third one was probably my least favorite of the three but that by no means implies I didn’t love it because I did. But maybe I wasn’t totally obsessed.

Third Book= Still pretty awesome

But all of this reading and sharing thoughts with Kara and friends at work who have been reading the books it made me really want to read more popular books to discuss with others.

Then Kara sent me a text that said we should start a book club.

And that is when the magic happened! We started a book club. We started a book club with 2 members. We started a book club with 2 members that had 2 very key things in common…

  1. We like to read
  2. We like to drink wine

So after some careful consideration (that lasted about 3 text messages) we decided on the name Drunk Princesses Read Too! Probably self-explanatory but we like wine and we  like to read and combine that with the fact that we are princesses it just seemed to make sense.

Then I realized that a lot of people like to read and drink wine and have wanted to be in a book club! So my mom wanted to be in the book club and then Rose also wanted to be in the book club! So now our group has grown into lots of princesses who like to drink wine and read!

My general review: The author is just great. Similar to how I felt like the Harry Potter books, it wouldn’t even matter what the story line was because the author was so good at telling the story. The details were so descriptive you thought you were there. Hell I started to think it was real life which is obvious by the fact I thought I was going to get shot with a bow and arrow during my trail run. I wanted to get to know the characters and I could not wait to get home so that I could read!

And now I am moving on (sorry Katniss- I will always love you)…

May’s book of the month is the very popular “50 Shades of Grey”

Here is what I know about the book so far…

  1. It is like a porno
  2. Everyone is reading it
  3. People are embarrassed to read it on airplanes in front of other people so they are very grateful for the kindle and i-pad (neither of which I own)
  4. Guys and girls alike love this book

So I am pretty excited to read this book! I need to go get it by at least next Tuesday evening when I will be in a flight for a while. I love love reading on planes- it makes the time go by so much faster. I also love reading regular old school books- I don’t have to power it down for take off or landing. Sometimes old school things are better.

Do I want a kindle? YES. I am not an alien. However, since I can’t afford one right now, I pretend that regular books are the best way to read a good book!

I’ll let you know at the end of May what I thought! Hopefully I’ll have some photos of the book club wine night meeting.

  • Have you read The 50 Shades of Grey? What did you think?
  • Are you in a book club?

CrossFit, Confirmation Weekend, and Trail Running

Life has been NUTS lately! Seriously I have been running around doing a little bit of everything over the last week or so. What I haven’t been doing is a whole lot of running although I have been getting in some great CrossFit workouts! So I am gonna try to include a workout during every post that I expect everyone to try Winking smile and I’ll include a few additional fun add-ins too! So here is the workout I think you should all try, my confirmation weekend overview, and a really great trail run!

CrossFit Workout

  • Run 1/2 mile warm-up
  • 25 Jump squats
  • 15 push-ups
  • 10 pull-ups
  • 20/each walking lunges
  • 10 burpees

Complete 3 times (minus the run)

Which if you are doing the math, in a very minimal amount of time,

  • 75 jump squats
  • 45 push-ups
  • 30 pull-ups
  • 60 each leg lunches
  • 30 burpees

You won’t be sorry! Do it for time and try to push yourself!

Confirmation Weekend

So when I was a baby my parents had me baptized and then in second grade I made my First Communion and then somewhere between then and now I missed making my confirmation! So as you may remember from a few months back I attended some adult classes for 4 weeks so that I was prepared to make my Confirmation and this weekend was the big event! The real Bishop was even there!

And Tim’s mom was kind enough to be my sponsor!

It really was a unique experience getting Confirmed at an older age. I think I liked it better because it helped put things into perspective…. the conversations were more meaningful I think. I was able to relate them to more experiences throughout life. Although the one 8th grade girl whose last name must have been at the end of the alphabet which landed her in the back with the adults seemed very kind and mature for an 8th grader! But man I bet those girls were cold- their dresses were very SHORT and did not look warm at all!

We had a celebration at home afterward where Tim was kind enough to make dinner for us and we snuck in a few family shots!!

And it wasn’t just my Confirmation day that was special on Saturday- it was also Tim’s little brother Tanner’s sweet 16 birthday!! It seems crazy that Tanner is already 16… makes me realize how long Tim and I have been together because I remember Tanner being so young when I first started coming around and now it is 16 years old and will be getting his license soon! Just crazy!

Trail Running

The other day I met my mom at Hubbard Valley Park in Seville for a trail run! I really haven’t done much trail running so I was amazed at how different the run felt. I did a 5K and then did some hill sprints before the day was up. There was something really freeing and refreshing  about running in the woods… except that I have been reading too much of The Hunger Games so when I was running through the open field I was certain I was going to get shot with a bow and arrow. I know I know sounds silly but hey that is what I thought of! What do you want me to say… those books are very well written and it just seems really real!

Hill Sprints went great….

But I made sure to stretch…

And my mom rocked her hill sprints!

I think I would love to plan a trail run once a week and then 2 longer runs a week. If I could get in a 3 week cycle I think it would be perfect. Now, all I need to do is find the time to do this! I think I may have to start waking up early in the morning again… I wish we had a nice straight path really close by that I could get an hour or so in before work even starts. I know I know I should just suck it up and get up early in the morning but it is really hard because I don’t end up going to bed until like 10:00 and 6-7 hours of sleep just won’t cut it for me!

When do you work out?

Did you complete the workout above? Tell me about it!
