What a weekend! I love it when the weekends are filled with family and friends. I hate the idea that they go by really fast but I love that they are filled doing fun things and living life the way it should be lived. I mean, let’s be honest, the workweek is by no means filled with daily excitement so I think the weekends are supposed to be all about doing things that make you smile, make you enjoy life, and just plain out make you happy!
Saturday morning we were happy to get up and head out to go to Angie’s boys birthday party! We had a full day ahead of us but wanted to be there to support Angie’s boys because she is always so good to me and I really appreciate her friendship! Tim and I took the boys some gift certificates to Laser Quest so hopefully they’ll spend some quality brother time shooting each other haha. Before we headed out to Angie’s we had to go over to Tim’s moms house to let the dog out. Tim is taking care of the dog this weekend while his mom is out of town and she less than 1 mile away so it is a pretty easy things to do! So Tim decided that instead of driving the car over there we should take a walk! So we mixed things up this morning and had a nice 2ish mile walk to his mom’s house and back. Since we don’t usually run on the weekends it was nice to just talk and do something active in the morning.
Tim made egg sandwiches before we left and I mixed up some fruit smoothies to take with us. Tim makes a heck of a good breakfast and there is something about someone else making your breakfast for you that makes it taste SO MUCH BETTER! When we got the party Tim was still hungry so he ate a sloppy joe but I was feeling very full so I had some veggies and some fruit. When we got home we were heading out to a beer festival so needless to say I knew I needed to get some food in my tummy! So the birthday party was great and Tim and I sincerely appreciate the invite from Angie! Then we headed home for a few minutes before we headed out to the Blues and Brews Beer festival in Akron. So as soon as my parents arrived in our driveway the 4 of us headed out to meet Casey, Mark, Andy, Jaclyn, Sarah, Mike, Paul, and Amanda at the beer fest!
It was the first time I had been to this event but Casey and Mark and a few of them had been to the same event last year at a different location. This year it was at Lock 3 Park. It was pretty much just a TON of people drinking a TON of beer. It had like over 50 tables of beer vendors set up and each one of them had a few beers to pick from. Now, I don’t know if they were all local or not but there were quite a few local people and some pretty good tasting beer. I should preface this by saying I am not a big beer drinker and I would never consider myself one to know a whole lot about beer but for $35 we got to spend the afternoon with some good friends enjoying some treats! We each got 25 beer tickets which I don’t think anyone actually used. You would be lucky to get through half of that. Plus, a few hours into the event more than half the vendors had run out of beer and left so that really stunk. In any case it was fun to try to the ones we did and I liked the fruity flavored ones the best!
We did meet Terry… see Terry below! Terry snuck in that photo and was then kind enough to let me cut in front of him in one of the beer lines. So welcome to the blog Terry! Thanks for letting me cut- and I hope you found your ride home!
After the beer fest Paul was kind enough to drive our slightly intoxicated butts home. We laughed and had totally inappropriate and off the wall conversation during the ride but eventually made it into the garage and into the house for dinner! For dinner we had burgers- a burger salad for both Paul- and myself with some edamame and some watermelon! YUMMM watermelon. Oh and some tomatoes with feta cheese… one of my favorites! I was feeling great about my healthy food choices until the word ice cream came up and we all went to Judy’s Ice Cream shop to surrender to our sweet tooth! I decided to treat myself (like I hadn’t been doing that all day right?) to 2 scoops of ice cream. 1 S’mores and 1 Strawberry Cheesecake…. Both were soooo good. Although I almost immediately regretted it after that last bite. I knew that WAS NOT the way to make healthy choices but hey you gotta live a little right? It’s not like I am eating like that all of the time so I figured once in a great while it’s OK to enjoy some bad for you food. It’s not he end of the world! I’ll just have to work that much harder in my workouts this week.
My parents were staying the night and Paul and Amanda are a ton of fun so the 6 of us played Apples to Apples where Tim took home the winner ribbon. I still think he was smuggling green cards when no one was looking but then again I am just a poor loser so of course I would think that. We laughed a lot and ended up heading to bed early but it felt late since the day was filled with beer and laughing! I woke up at 6:30 this morning to my mom struggling with the K Cup machine and needed some darn coffee! Dad slept in a bit as did Tim so my mom and I had breakfast together and I made us some breakfast burritos. We put 2 whole eggs and 2 egg whites, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, and Muenster cheese inside a whole wheat tortilla. My mom said it was like being in Mexico again getting a special meal! Don’t worry- I made one for my dad when he eventually rolled out of bed but Tim just wanted a bowl of cereal. Too much beer left over in his belly I think!
After my parents left Tim and I created the all mighty to-do list for the Sunday we thought would be free and clear to do a whole lotta nothing. After walking over to his mom’s to let the dog out we made some peanut butter banana smoothies for the road and headed out to get our stuff done! We went to the craft store, Starbucks to get prizes for Kara’s wedding shower coming up, Sam’s Club, and even tried to do some grocery shopping at Marc’s which usually makes Tim crazy but it never hurts to save a little money! The Marc’s in Fairlawn could really use some TLC though… it is just not very fun to shop there but we made it!
We got home and I had some stuffed red pepper soup that I had picked up from Acme the night before. Tim had the left over pseudo Chinese meal we made. Then… we both just fell asleep on the couch. I LOVE and I mean LOVE taking Sunday afternoon naps on the couch. There is something about knowing you have that time to just relax and take a break that really makes a Sunday feel like the relaxing day it is supposed to be! Of course when you wake up you usually think of 10,000 things you should have been doing instead of sleeping but I usually put that out of my head and just enjoy the time I spent taking time to just do for me.
We ended the night with Tim making some jambalaya that had a mix along with some chicken sausage and some shrimp. I firmly believe that you can put just about anything on lettuce so that is how Tim and I ate it! It was great- and either one of us or both of us will be enjoying it for lunch tomorrow! What a busy but amazing weekend. I just hate that the weekends fly by and the workweeks don’t! Who decided we should do 5 days on 2 days off anyway? It should be the other way around!
Well here’s to another great weekend! Cheers! Yes, I am currently enjoying a glass of Flip Flop Pinot Grigio as we speak!
