I love my friends. I mean literally that is all there is to it! So I decided to do something a little special for a few of my girls as a way to say “Thank you, I love you, you mean a lot to me, and I would love for you to be in my wedding.” I was struggling with ideas and then my sister came across an idea on another blog that involved writing something sweet to your friends and giving them a treat so I pretty much copied that idea and made it my own for my friends!
I asked my parents if I could use their house to host a little bridesmaid get-together so that we could play cornhole outside, eat on the deck, and just have a few hours of girl time to get to know each other. The thing about my friends is that they all come from a different part of my life. Kara is from middle school, Rose I met in college, and Casey is my post-college life so unfortunately they haven’t had much opportunity to get to know each other over the last couple of years. I was hoping this little event would be a nice way to start out all of the fun wedding planning that will be happening over the next year or so! So my parent’s agreed to let me have the girls over and I provided lunch and drinks to get our afternoon started. For lunch we had the works for sandwiches along with some mango black bean salsa served with Stacey’s Pita Chips, watermelon and some delicious guacamole that Casey made! She makes one mean bowl of guac so I think I probably ate more than I shared! We had wine, 100 calorie margaritas (tryin got make drinking a little healthier), La Croix, and other various drinks to go along with lunch! So anyway it is was just really nice to have them in the same room to ask them all to be part of my special day.
To “officially” ask I bought them all a different cupcake from the Pure Delight cupcakery located in Fairlawn. These are “guilt-free” cupcakes meaning that they make them with whole wheat flour, natural sugars, and other natural ingredients. They have quite a selection of sugar free and gluten free ones as well. For Kara I chose a cannoli cupcake because, well, she likes cannolis! We always enjoyed going to Mike Pastrys when we both lived in Boston and reminisce about it often so this seemed like the perfect choice for her. For Rose I chose a chocolate covered strawberry cupcake. Rose is like the queen of desserts and is such a great chef and baker so I had to set the bar pretty high for her. This cupcake looked like a true masterpiece and as soon as I saw it I knew she would love it. Casey got a vanilla one with sprinkles because funfetti is her favorite cake and since the place didn’t have funfetti cake mix the sprinkles made it the closest fit! I chose a carrot cake cupcake for my mom and a snickerdoodle cupcake for my dad! Although I didn’t have to ask Tim to be in the wedding he still got a cupcake too! He picked a cannoli one and really seemed to enjoy it… .don’t ya think?
So each cupcake had a poem written that was tailored to each one of my wonderful friends! The poems were about how we met, the things we have done, how close we have become, and mostly how much they mean to me and how much I appreciate their friendship. By my mom’s request each one of them had to read their poem aloud which just ended up making my mom cry! It was a really special moment for me to be surrounded by so many people that I care about for an event that is so important.
After the lunch and cupcakes we went out to the dock to hang out there for a while and then came back up for a very LOOONG game of cornhole. None of us were very impressive and the boards were very slippery so it lasted a little longer than most games but Casey and I came out the winners and we were proud of our victory!
So it was an afternoon of fun and friendship and I can’t think of anything better than that. Looking at all of those beautiful girls I am just so honored that they are my friends and I am constantly reminded how lucky I am to have them! So thank you girls for being amazing- I love you all and could not imagine enjoying this special day without you there standing by my side!
