“Umm, you’re not allowed to run here, this is a state route!”
So this is an added bonus post for you! It’s not really part of the worrisome Wednesday series but it certainly is worth posting says a fellow blogger I know =)
This part Monday, as you may have seen on the first edition of Tasty Tuesdays post, I went running in the afternoon before heading out to the airport. I met my mom at the gym and we warmed up on the treadmill. It was too nice of a day to not enjoy the sunshine and fresh air so they we headed out to the street. We ended up walking on what I guess is a “state route” but let’s just be clear here that is like close to the center of a small town and it was in the middle of the day so we are not talking like crazy busy road through a busy part of town. How do I know now that it is state route? Well it is not because I have some general knowledge, or even because I used some common sense logic, rather I know this because I got pulled over… while running… on foot.
Yep, never had a real ticket in my life yet I managed to get pulled over while running.
I was just a few steps ahead of my mom and up ahead I saw a police officer coming towards me. Naturally I thought nothing of it but then all of the sudden the lights started going and he was pulling off of the side of the road right towards me. Yep, thanks for the show buddy- I’m sure everyone loved to see you pulling over some girl in a ponytail on the side of the road… impressive my friend very impressive.
So anyway, this overweight (probably not relevant to my story but inserted it here as an example of how frustrated he made me), middle-aged, angry man says to me “UMMM you are not allowed to run here, this is a state route.” My gut reaction was to say “UMM excuse me but why are you so rude? And do you have some salt in that cop car of yours that you could go salt the sidewalks do I don’t have to risk my life to get a little exercise into my day” but rather I politely smiled and said “Sorry sir I didn’t realize that, no problem” and headed back on the street to finish my run.
Just another running adventure shared between mother and daughter! I guess now I know that when I come to that intersection and need to make a decision as to whether we should turn right or left… I’ll turn right.
In case you are a more visual person, here is my cartoon representation of happened…

You ought to put Wadsworth Police Dept. as one of your “Tags” lol. Maybe they can give the cops classes on how to be a little nicer to people
He probably felt better after he stopped and got his donut(s) hahaha
haha I did think about that actually but I figured I better be nice =)
hehe!
